Twelve people, mostly jockeys, have been arrested suspected of being involved in a HK$2million horse race fixing scam, anti-corruption officers in Hong Kong said yesterday.
Three serving jockeys, three serving apprentice jockeys, four former apprentice jockeys and two civilians were rounded up by Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) officers in Monday's operation probing alleged horse race fixing.
The ICAC said inquiries were continuing and more arrests may follow.
The jockeys and apprentice jockeys were allegedly bribed, through a middleman who was at the time an apprentice jockey, for being involved in manipulating the results of two races in 1996, ICAC said in a statement.
