Best performance: "From my own point of view it was beating Mayo. They were there for the last two years, were a great team - should have won two All-Irelands - so that was a great hurdle to get over. All we needed then was experience. The more games we had the better we were going to get."

Most disappointing performance: "Every game is good when you win but in terms of preparation, you'd have to say the Leitrim game didn't help. It was no test. I'm not running down Leitrim, but we overpowered them on the day. It was the worst preparation we could have had and derailed us a bit for the Connacht final."

What has made the difference for Galway this year? "Since 1983 there have been great teams in Galway but luck is a big factor. So far this year we have got the breaks, sometimes a goal, sometimes great saves from Martin McNamara. It's a young team and the young lads are fearless, we don't know what to expect, so we go in and play our normal football. All this Galway team has played in Croke Park before - even before the semi-final - in 1994 and '95 and Corofin in the All-Ireland club. You forget about the crowd once you run onto the pitch. We won't be overawed."

Opposing views: Fergal O'Donnell (Roscommon centre forward) - "His main strength is his delivery - his ability to drive the ball forward, either from frees or play. Always looking out for the ball and his speed and strength helps him fulfill that essential role of bringing the ball forward. May not be the stickiest of backs, but if they are doing well at midfield that shouldn't matter. If he gets on top of things, he will cause plenty of problems for Kildare."

Aidan Rooney (Leitrim centre forward) - "A significant role in that most of the play comes from his area and this year he has come of out nowhere to perform very well in that position. Physically he is very strong with a great positional sense, although his mobility and speed may be suspect on occasions. His main strength as a defender is on a one-to-one and that certainly caused problems when I tried to stand with him."
