Generosa suffered a shock defeat in the featured EBF Beginners Chase at Thurles yesterday. The six-year-old mare, winner of the Stakis Casinos Handicap Hurdle Final at the Cheltenham Festival in March, was sent off at odds of 1 to 3 but was unable to match Jolly Jake in the straight.
Jolly Jake, trained by Mouse Morris, made most under Jason Titley and stayed on gamely under pressure to score by five and a half lengths. However, Titley was given a two suspension (Dec 4th-5th) for careless riding after the stewards enquired into possible interference before the last between his mount and third placed Good Lord Frank.
Barry Geraghty extended his lead at the head of the jockeys' table when completing a double aboard Go For Grace and Alexander Prize. Go For Grace was well-backed (9/4 to 6/4) in the opening Cahir 3-Y-O Maiden Hurdle and swept to the front after three out for a facile length victory over Some Steed. "She needs to improve her jumping a bit, and we will find a winners' race for her next," said winning trainer Frances Crowley.
Geraghty moved onto the 38 winner mark when Alexander Prize showed reserves of stamina to justify odds-on support in the EBF INH Stallion Owners Maiden Hurdle. The Willie Mullins-trained gelding was driven out to beat Timbera by two lengths.
Paul Carberry was stood down for the day - missing five rides - after being kicked when feeding horses on Wednesday evening. However, he expects to be back for the big weekend meeting at Fairyhouse.
