Northern Ireland's David Jones fired a flawless 66 to take a one-shot lead into today's final round of the Philips PFA Classic at Meon Valley, Southampton.
His six-birdie round took him to nine-under-par 135, the score he produced for a one-stroke advantage in last year's tournament when he was eventually caught and beaten in a play-off by Ryder Cup veteran Neil Coles.
"I hope that is not some sort of omen," Jones said.
The Bangor professional produced a spectacular birdie hat-trick to end his round and edge in front of Spain's Ryder Cup veteran Antonio Garrido, who has collected a pair of 68s.
Jones, a former PGA Cup player, is still seeking a first European Senior Tour title after three second place finishes over the past two years.
