MOTOR SPORT: Sports Digest Toyota have cleared the way for Jordan to compete in Formula One next season by agreeing to supply the troubled team with engines at "an affordable price".

Jordan, fighting for survival after their engine supplier Ford pulled out of the sport, had said last Friday they would sign up for the 2005 championship before yesterday's entry deadline. "Toyota are to be commended," Eddie Jordan said in a statement yesterday. "Not only have they been fantastic to Jordan by agreeing this deal at short notice but they have also done the magnanimous thing for the sport by putting Formula One above their own exclusivity."

Toyota have not supplied engines to another team since joining the sport three years ago. Ford put its Jaguar team and Cosworth engine maker up for sale in September.

MOTOR SPORT: Drinks firm Red Bull bought the Jaguar team yesterday, ending months of uncertainty triggered by Ford's withdrawal from the sport.

DRUGS IN SPORT: Sportsmen and women could soon face mandatory two-year bans from their sports if they are caught using recreational drugs at any time, the head of the World Anti-Doping Agency said yesterday.

Dick Pound said WADA was prepared to look into amending its anti-doping code to include recreational drugs and to apply the most severe penalties for their use, whether in or out of competition.
