MOTOR SPORT: Eddie Jordan has denied that his Formula One team is up for sale, despite reports in the British press that the Irishman is prepared to relinquish ownership of his financially hard-pressed outfit.

"The headline on that story was a disgrace," said Jordan of the Sun article which claimed Jordan was willing to "flog off" his team.

"What I actually said was that if the right opportunity came about to get Jordan winning again - quickly - then I would consider selling. Obviously, I would like to continue my involvement, but that doesn't mean the team is for sale."

Despite the denial, Jordan's statements will be regarded as an invitation to potential purchasers, particularly manufacturers, to begin knocking on Jordan's Silverstone garage door. It has been no secret that the Irish team is financially troubled, and although the team's re-signing of title sponsor Benson & Hedges has secured its immediate racing future, the longer-term outlook for the team remains unclear.Jordan, too, admitted he considered the current climate in Formula One to be one of the most difficult in his memory.
