JUPITER PLUVIUS could follow in the footsteps of previous Aidan O'Brien-trained 2,000 Guineas winners and go straight to Newmarket in May without a preparatory run.

The unbeaten colt, now as low as 10 to 1 in ante-post for the opening classic of 2008, was part of a massive battalion of 45 O'Brien horses to work after racing at the Curragh yesterday.

Also in the Ballydoyle group were star names such as last year's Irish Derby winner Soldier Of Fortune and the champion stayer Yeats, as well as the 1,000 Guineas hope Kitty Matcham and the four-year-old Duke Of Marmalade, both of whom were ridden by Johnny Murtagh.

"It's a day away for them," explained O'Brien, who recruited the cream of the jockey's room to help with the massive number of horses.

Michael Kinane, Pat Smullen and Declan McDonogh were among the riders used as the horses were split into two groups of 18, with nine as yet unnamed two-year-olds making up a third and final lot.

Wayne Lordan was the jockey on board Jupiter Pluvius, who was led by Plan in a seven-furlong piece of work which pleased O'Brien.

There was more definite news of Soldier Of Fortune as O'Brien nominated the Tattersalls Gold Cup on Irish Guineas weekend as a possible target for his Curragh classic winner.

Yesterday's work-outs were carried out in heavy rain on ground that was officially described as "heavy".
