Robbie Keane was on target again for Inter Milan in Katowice, Poland, last night, scoring his side's third goal in their 3-0 UEFA Cup, first round, first leg win against the modest Polish side, Ruch Chorzow. Showing a quick turn and an excellent finish, Keane tucked away the third goal from just two yards out, after he had been set up by a header from Ivan Cordoba from a Alvaro Recoba corner.
That 71st minute goal effectively finished the match and leaves Inter with little more than a formality for the return leg at the San Siro in a fortnight's time.
For much of the first half, Keane saw little of the ball with his best moment coming just before half-time when he made good ground down the left before sending in a dangerous cross, subsequently cleared by the Chorzow defence. Keane, however, signalled the turnaround on the hour, getting onto the end of a cross from Brazilian midfielder Vampeta only to see his powerful volley tipped over the bar by the Chorzow goalkeeper, Wierzchowiski. Three minutes later Clarence Seedorf opened the scoring with a shot from the edge of the area. On 66 minutes Recoba skipping past two defenders on the edge of the penalty area before striking home a majestic drive. Five minutes later, Keane struck to wrap up the result.
