WestBrom 1 Tottenham 1West Bromwich Albion last night recorded their third successive score draw since returning to the Premiership in a game that allowed Ireland's Robbie Keane his first action of the new season.

Although his side remain unbeaten, Gary Megson will not be satisfied.

He stressed after Sunday's stalemate with Aston Villa at the Hawthorns that West Brom needed to win their home games if they are to last longer than a season in the top flight.

Once again they wasted chances, and they were fortunate to survive a 10-minute spell after the interval when Spurs, who are also unbeaten, put them under seige.

Both teams featured a player making his full debut. Megson gave Zoltan Gera, the Hungarian midfielder, his first start after two appearances from the bench. Spurs' £1.5 million signing from Nice, Noe Pamarot, was thrown straight in by Jaques Santini.

Gera needed just two minutes to repay Megson's faith.

Given possession by Riccardo Scimeca's prodigious headed clearance, Gera bypassed Nourredine Naybet before sweeping the ball across Paul Robinson and into the far corner of his goal.

Naybet proved culpable again when he was muscled off the ball by Geoff Horsfield, but the Moroccan was spared further embarrassment by Robinson.

Horsfield's physical approach was replicated by Darren Purse and Thomas Gaardsoe at the heart of the hosts' defence.

Instead of taking it into the danger zone, apart from a mazy run by Freddie Kanoute that lacked a colleague's support, Spurs' attempts on goal were executed from distance.

The Albion goalkeeper Russell Hoult reacted smartly to block a low drive from Jermaine Defoe and foil the England striker as he stretched to reach the rebound.

His heroics were forgotten, however, when he dived over another low shot from Defoe to let Spurs equalise.

Santini's first substitution - in the 67-minute - was a surprise, replacing the clearly aggrieved Defoe with Keane.

Predictably, Keane was given a hostile reception because of his Wolverhampton origins, as he was by Purse and Gaardsoe.
