SCHOOLS' RUGBY: Holders Skerries Community School had outhalf Owen Keane to thank for their safe passage into the the second round of the Coca-Cola Leinster Schools Section A Senior Cup at ALSAC yesterday.

He struck two early penalties before a try from Eoin O'Byrne and banged over his third penalty for a 14-0 lead at the break.

Less than a minute into the new half, Diarmuid Quirke intercepted for a tryand converted himself to put Mount Temple back in contention.

But Keane's cool decision making in possession and another penalty 15 minutes from time was enough to keep Skerries in front.

Scoil Eoin, Athy resisted strong pressure from Wilson's Hospital in a scoreless second-half to qualify for a meeting with Skerries. Their 13-10 win was built on tries from Kevin O'Toole and John Troute and a penalty from full back Paddy Dunne.

In the top half of the table, Newpark Community School were 14-5 victors over plucky Sandford Park at Kilgobbin.

Centre Jason Lowe was their talisman, striking three penalties for a 9-0 lead and popping up after a turnover for Newpark's only try.

At Anglesea Road, Pat Underwood's try gave Marian College a 7-0 half-time lead, but two tries from Paul Ainscough inpired St Conleth's to a 17-7 comeback victory.
