AMATEUR GOLF: Ireland's Justin Kehoe, Colm Moriarty, Noel Fox and Gareth Maybin have been named in the 24-man squad from which next year's Walker Cup team is likely to be selected.
Kehoe, winner of the World University championships, is a strong contender after taking four points from six in the Home Internationals at Royal St David's, Wales.
Maybin, the North of Ireland champion, who won all his six matches at the recent interprovincials at the Slieve Russell, has returned to the University of South Alabama, where he finished 26th in the NCAA championships earlier this year. Moriarty and Fox are included in the squad, but both cleared the first hurdle last week in their bid to join the professional ranks and may take up that option if they gain their Tour cards at the final qualifying school in Spain in November.
Next year's match will be the first as captain for Ireland's Garth McGimpsey, although he represented B&I in the Walker Cup in 1985, 1989 and 1991. He also captained last month's St Andrews Trophy Team.

The Golfing Union of Ireland and the Irish Ladies Golf Union have launched the Charter for Junior Golf, a defined document setting out the aims and principles of a united group, involving the unions, branches and the golf clubs with the full support of the PGA Irish Region.
The charter attempts to cover the entire range of a junior golfer's potential development, from pre-club starter schemes through to representative golf and elite coaching at provincial, district and national levels.
Copies of the Charter for Junior Golf will be distributed to all clubs over the coming weeks, and the working group has arranged a series of information meetings throughout the country to which every club's captain, lady captain, honorary secretaries, junior officers and professionals have been invited.
