Kelly makes 200m butterfly final

SWIMMING:At the European Junior Swimming Championships in Antwerp, Belgium, yesterday Sarah Kelly, from Coman's SC in Roscommon, has qualified in eighth place for today's final in the 200m butterfly in a personal best of 2:17.69. She had also set a personal best in the morning's heats with 2:17.69 where she finished seventh overall.

Tallaght’s Clodagh Flood had a personal best in the heats with 2:19.36 but failed to make the finals after finishing 16th after the semi-finals. Both are back in action today in the 400m freestyle heats.

In the boy’s 4x100m freestyle relay Curtis Coulter; David O’Sullivan; Brian O’Sullivan and David Prendergast finished ninth, one place behind Britain, missing out on a place in the final. However, their time of 3:27.33 set an Irish junior record by 12 seconds.

Other highlights included the boy’s 50m butterfly, in which all three Irish swimmers set personal bests (Coulter 25.40; Brendan Hyland 25.63; David O’Sullivan 26.13). Cian Duffy also had a personal best (59.97) in the 100m backstroke. Brian O’Sullivan swam a best time of 58.21 in the 100m backstroke.
