John Kelly, professional from the Ward Driving Range set a unique record in the Leinster Alliance captain's (Michael Twomey)prize at the Grange on Sunday. Kelly's record 64 will stand for ever as the Grange had earth-moving equipment starting the reconstruction of greens and tee boxes yesterday.
Kelly's 64, however, was not good enough to win the president's prize which went to Tony Kelly of Old Conna who beat Dr David Sheehan (Grange) on the break of a tie.
This year's introduction of the under-21 category has proved an outstanding success with a number of younger players taking up the option of playing. Kevin Purcell (Old Conna) won the under-21 section with a 69.
The next outing is to Woodbrook Golf Club on July 29th when the much sought after Irish Times Shield will be the prize for the winning team.
