Soccer Uefa Champions League: Derry City manager Stephen Kenny has outlined his side's priority in advance of tonight's Uefa Cup clash against IFK Gothenburg.

Kenny's aim is to keep the game alive until the second leg, at the Brandywell on July 27th.

"Gothenburg have made themselves outstanding favourites to win. However, from our point of view, it's all about keeping the game alive," said Kenny.

"To opt for total defensive tactics would be a bad move on our part. We would basically be inviting trouble, so we intend to have a go and be ambitious. To defend for 90 minutes is not in our make-up. The importance of an away goal in Europe can be hugely significant, and it would be nice if we could score," concluded the Derry boss.

Kenny, has not yet ruled out the participation of Ciarán Martyn, who damaged shoulder ligaments against Drogheda in the League Cup, but he admitted it would be a risk to include the Sligo man.

"We left Paddy McCourt at home to get treatment on his hamstring, and while Ciarán is here, it's a worry," said Kenny.

"He's trained regularly but I'm worried any fall or heavy contact on the shoulder could exacerbate the injury and I don't really want to risk that."

However both full-backs, Seán Hargan and Eddie McCallion, have been passed fit to play and are expected to join the Derry skipper, Peter Hutton, and Darren Kelly in the back four.
