Kenny has last word

ROSCOMMON...0-12 SLIGO..

ROSCOMMON...0-12 SLIGO...0-09: Roscommon struck three points in the last eight minutes to overcome a determined Sligo team in the Connacht Minor Football Championship at Dr Hyde Park yesterday.

The teams had been evenly-matched throughout and when Alan Taaffe brought Sligo level in the 46th minute, a draw looked likely. However, Roscommon's John Collins converted free kicks in the 52nd and 54th minute to edge his team in front.

Two minutes into injury-time Enda Kenny drove over his fourth point of the match to clinch victory for the home team.

Roscommon began the game well and raced into a four-point lead with scores from Conor McHugh (two), Barry Nolan and Kenny. They were still four points ahead after 28 minutes but Sligo scores from Taaffe, Philip Murphy and Michael Gormley left just one point between the teams at half-time.
