FORMER ARMAGH manager Joe Kernan has stated he is very interested in the Galway job ahead of nominations for the position closing tomorrow.

Kernan said he has been impressed with the underage success enjoyed by Galway in recent years and is hopeful of developing that if he gets the job.

“I am 100 per cent interested in the job. For years I thought I would never be with anyone else only Armagh. I was asked if I would be interested in the Galway job. I thought about it for a while and with the 100 per cent backing of my family we sat down and decided. I spoke to one board official. The nominations have to be in by Friday. My name is in the hat so we’ll just have to wait and see, but I’d be delighted to do the job."

Kernan admitted his sons still play for Armagh was the only deterrent to him getting back into management.

It is believed Kernan may be the only person nominated for the position with a number of local candidates no longer willing to allow their names go forward.
