Republic of Ireland manager Brian Kerr has made five changes to the under-16 panel which took on Belgium in back-to-back friendlies recently for next week's European Championship qualifying tournament in Dublin.

Joe Kendrick of Newcastle United, Graham Ward of Wolves and Stockport County's Jonathan Daly return after missing the friendlies through injury, while Daryl McMahon of West Ham and Newcastle's Stephen Brennan are included for the three-match tournament against Wales, Switzerland and Sweden.

"We'll need to improve a good bit on the performances against Belgium if we're going to make it to next year's finals in Israel," Kerr said yesterday, "but we'll have a few days to get things right before the tournament starts and I'd be hopeful that we can through on home soil."

The Irish take on Sweden at Tolka Park on Monday evening in their opening game, followed by the meeting with the Swiss at Richmond Park on Wednesday and with the Welsh back at Drumcondra on Friday.
