A point in stoppage time by Sean Davey earned Sligo a deserved draw with All-Ireland champions Kerry in a football challenge at Coola yesterday. The game produced passages of top-class football with the Kingdom staging a spirited rally in the second half after trailing by 0-8 to 0-4 at half-time.
Kerry looked on course for the narrowest of wins when Ger O'Brien pointed a 14-yard free a minute before the end. But Sligo, who shocked their opponents in last year's National League, refused to lie down and were rewarded when Davey equalised.
Liam Flaherty at centre half back stood head and shoulders above everyone in a solid Kerry defence. Kerry were missing a number of regulars including Maurice Fitzgerald who played against Offaly the previous evening.
