MUNSTER MFC FIRST ROUND: Kerry 4-16 Waterford 0-6:KERRY PUT a disappointing Waterford side to the sword in this one-sided Munster minor football championship opener played at a wet Austin Stack Park last evening but the Kingdom never hit top gear.
The only talking point of this uneven contest was the quality of the Kerry goals with dual start Padraig Boyle (an All-Ireland B minor and under-21 hurling medal winner) scoring two, with his opening goal a real gem when he dribbled soccer style through a forest of Waterford defenders before side-footing the ball to the net, for a goal of a sheer class.
In truth Waterford were never at the races as Kerry dominated the midfield exchanges with Gary O’Leary and Shaun Keane outstanding but the Kerry attack were wasteful in the extreme kicking eight wides but they led 2-6 to 0-4 at half-time.
