COLLEGES GAA LEINSTER SH SEMI-FINAL St Kieran's, Kilkenny 4-11 Good Counsel 1-12:WITH 12 minutes remaining in Saturday's encounter at Carlow the sides were tied at 0-11 to 1-8 and Good Counsel could very well have had three third-quarter goals.
However, it was again a Wexford tale of what might have been with a Kilkenny team in opposition as St Kieran’s finished strongly and pilfered three goals, two of the soft variety, to render Jack Guiney’s injury-time strike from a close range free a mere consolation goal.
Guiney, son of ’96 Wexford All-Ireland star Dave, hurled a magnificent game at midfield for the New Ross school as well as displaying terrific marksmanship, finishing with 1-9, all bar a point from placed balls. Thanks mainly to his accuracy Counsel led 0-10 to 1-6 at the break, the Kieran’s goal a well-taken effort by Thomas O’Hanrahan.
