Hurling / Walsh Cup / Quarter-finals / Kilkenny 2-25 Laois 2-23: Kilkenny were taken to extra-time by Laois before surviving in the Walsh Cup in Rathdowney yesterday.
Seaghan O'Neill scored the first goal of the game to help Kilkenny into a 1-13 to 0-7 lead by the end of the first half. Kilkenny led by 2-16 to 0-10 after 43 minutes after Eddie Brennan goaled. Then Laois produced a rally which yielded two goals, from Damien Culleton and Joe Coogan, and five points and the margin was down to two points.
Kilkenny restored their three-point lead but Laois shot three points, the equaliser coming from John Delaney. The sides traded scores in extra-time until two Aidan Fogarty points in the closing minutes of the second period saw Kilkenny take the honours.
