THIRD ROUND REPLAYS Killester United 1 Wexford Youths 2:KILLESTER UNITED gave a good account of themselves in last night's replay at Hadden Park. United put their opponents under pressure in the final 20 minutes and were unlucky not to have forced extra-time after producing a series of chances.
The visitors went in front in the 16th minute when Conor Synott, having cut in from the left, shot in off the goalkeeper's far post.
With Killester now stretched at the back, the visitors then doubled their lead on 23 minutes when a long ball over the top released Gavan Doyle who duly slotted past goalkeeper Matt Bligh.
Wexford, in one of their excursions upfield in the second half, had the chance to stretch their lead but Danny Furlong, having just come on the field, was unable to control the ball with the goal at his mercy.
United pulled one back with 20 minutes to go when David Lacey converted from the penalty spot after Shane Dunne's cross had been handled inside the area.
And they continued to press with Sean Tracey's shot on the run parried away by Patrick Doyle.
Doyle continued to perform heroics in goal for Wexford and with five minutes to go spread himself well to deny Lacey from point -blank range. And then in the dying seconds Paul Rossiter cleared Darren Murphy's header from under the crossbar.
