MICK KINANE and trainer Dermot Weld recorded a double on the concluding day of the Ballinrobe July meeting last evening.
Shunaire initiated the brace when justifying favouritism in the Westport Maiden after edging past Desert Gift inside the final furlong to score comfortably by a neck.
The double was completed in the Corrib Natural Orange Juice Handicap with Rockny who pegged back front-running Genial Jenny inside the final furlong under a strong drive by the former champion to win by two lengths.
Preceptor, trained by Victor Bowens, followed up on his recent Roscommon Maiden Hurdle success with a pillar-to-post victory under the trainer's son, Brian, in the West Handicap Hurdle. The 6 to 1 outsider of the four runners will turn out at Galway next week in a novice chase according to the Colbinstown, Co Wicklow handler.
Caragh Bridge, despite drifting from 6 to 4 to 3 to 1, provided Charlie Swan with his second success at the meeting after coming home by 3 1/2 lengths from the favourite Hannies Girl. Winning trainer Martin Lynch said "Depending on how the horse gets out of today's race, I'll decide between Galway next Friday week or Sligo a week later."
