EQUESTRIAN: Jessica Kürten wound up a good day's work by claiming fifth place in the German Grand Prix in Wiesbaden yesterday afternoon, after finishing third in the morning's young horse championship.
The world number 11, who won the La Baule Grand Prix with Castle Forbes Maike a fortnight ago, brought out another of her top mares for yesterday's feature in Wiesbaden. Quibell duly produced a double clear, but her time of 49.40 seconds was almost two-and-a-half seconds off the winning turn of hoof displayed by Ukrainian duo Gregory Wathelet and Lantinus.
Earlier, Kürten and Castle Forbes Cadeaux were fast and clear in the young horse championship, but not fast enough to prevent Holland's Yves Houtackers from snatching victory on Liza Minelli by less than a 10th of a second. Mayo's Cameron Hanley kept the Irish in the frame when taking fifth with SIEC Livello.
The recent run of good form should see a return to the world top 10 for Kürten when the May figures are released next week.
