RACING: Limestone Lad will have his final piece of work today before his bid for next Thursday's Bonusprint Stayers' Hurdle at Cheltenham. The gelding's travel arrangements have also been finalised.
On the horse's last visit to the festival in 2000, he ate and drank very little having arrived at the track on the Sunday before the Stayers' Hurdle. This time trainer Michael Bowe is planning the raid differently.
"He will travel over on the Tuesday or the Wednesday by boat and the plan is to stable him away from the racecourse," Bowe said yesterday.
"They will be a couple of things in his favour hopefully. You try to do these things and hope they make a difference. But he still has to go and do it," he added. Bowe reported that Limestone Lad emerged well from his workout at Leopardstown last weekend. "It was very beneficial to him, did him a lot of good. He had a big blow afterwards. He will do another piece of work in the morning and that will be it," he added.
Limestone Lad had a workout at Thurles racecourse a couple of weeks ago and the plan could be to take him away again.
