McCORRY CUP FINAL:THE McCORRY Cup final at Donnybrook on Saturday saw Lansdowne hold out for a 16-15 victory over Dublin University despite a try deep into injury-time.
It proved a highly entertaining contest, with Lorcan Kavanagh's third successful penalty with 10 minutes remaining ultimately proving enough to hand Lansdowne the trophy.
The centre had sent over two early penalties before Trinity captain Chris Jebb halved Lansdowne's lead with a kick in front of the posts on the half-hour.
It remained 6-3 at the break with Lansdowne, after a concentrated spell of pressure in the opposition 22, then making the breakthrough when Shane Gahan slipped two tackles to score under the posts on 55 minutes.
Kavanagh converted but shortly after the hour mark a fortunate bounce off a crossfield kick allowed Tim McCoy to make the line for Trinity.
Kavanagh then landed a penalty from the 10-metre line to hand Lansdowne a double-score lead and Dublin University had to wait until the 87th minute for a score when the impressive Conor Colclough exploited an overlap on the left to make the line.
Jebb made the conversion only for the referee to blow up for time straight afterwards.
