Australian captain Mark Taylor was elated after scoring an unbeaten 334 against Pakistan in Peshawar yesterday, but insisted a team win was more important than overhauling Brian Lara's world Test record of 375.

"I am delighted as I have never thought I would ever score a triple hundred in Test cricket. It is a great feeling and I will never forget this innings," Taylor said.

Lara scored 375 against England at St John's, Antigua in 1994.

"The team's win is more important than the record but I will see how much time I can spare to reach there," Taylor said.

"I can never think to be in the same mould as Don Bradman. His records are exemplary and it is great to be on the same score as Sir Donald."

Taylor recorded the 15th triple hundred in Test cricket and became the fourth Australian to achieve the feat. He also moved past 7000 runs in his Test career.

"I had never thought I would go that far but after crossing 40 my feet started moving and the wicket is also very good. Today I felt as good as I have ever felt in a Test."

Taylor cruised past his previous best Test score of 219, which he hit at Trent Bridge against England in 1989.

"The last couple of years I had some tough times, with Steve Waugh turning on lot of runs, so I thought to keep on batting and since the first Test against England last year I have never looked back," the 33-year-old said.

"We will have beers and enjoy the night. It was fantastic to have all the players welcoming me at the close."

All his teammates applauded on every milestone and gathered around Taylor on the boundary at the close of the day.
