Pádraig Harrington briefly held the lead after he birdied the 17th in his second round of the Mercedes Championship at Cog Hill Golf and Country Club in Illinois but a bogey at the last cost the Dubliner and he signed for a 68.

It was Harrington’s first bogey in 36 holes and despite it he still lies one off the clubhouse lead posted by Mark Wilson who shot a 66.

Overnight leader Rory Sabbatini began well and moved to seven under early on but bogeys on the way in at the second and the fourth forced him to sign for a 70 and a place alongside Harrington on six under.

Ominously, Tiger Woods bounced back from a bogey at the first to register five birdies and move into a tie for the lead with Wilson with a 67.
