Newly-installed Drogheda United manager Martin Lawlor last night confirmed the signings of Ian Hill (free transfer from Cliftonville), Brian Irwin and goalkeeper Eddie Van Boxtel.

Irwin and Van Boxtel have both switched from Galway United, while Lawlor has also completed the re-signing of Noel Reid and John Carroll from last year's promotion panel.

The FAI National League has called off tonight's League Cup tie between Drogheda and Longford because of `non-compliance with the players registration requirements'.

Meanwhile, Jim McLaughlin has been confirmed as Dundalk's manager for the coming season. Tommy Connolly, who has been acting as careteker boss, is expected to stay on as McLoughlin's assistant.

McLaughlin returns to the Oriel Park side after having previously managed the club from 1974 until 1983, during which time he brought three league titles and three cups to Dundalk.
