Liverpool have told Italian giants Lazio they would be "wasting their time" with a £30-million bid for Michael Owen. The Anfield club have responded swiftly to claims that the Serie A side are set to swoop for the England star.
Peter Robinson, Liverpool's executive vice-chairman, said: "Lazio would be wasting their time if they approached us."
Manchester United have given Peter Schmeichel a glowing send-off as he prepares to play out the twilight of his career in Portugal.
The veteran Danish goalkeeper, who quit English football after helping United to their unprecedented treble last season, signed a two-year contract with Sporting Lisbon yesterday.
Old Trafford chairman Martin Edwards said: "Obviously we wish Peter well for the future at his new club."
Schmeichel will reportedly receive around £600,000 per year.
Eyal Berkovic's future could be ironed out this week when he returns from a family holiday in France. The 27-year-old midfielder has been linked with a £5-million move from West Ham to Celtic.
Parkhead's director of foot-balling operations Kenny Dalglish is a long-time admirer of Berkovic and apparently tried to sign him when he was Newcastle manager.
Polish international Darius Adamczuk is expected to join Rangers this week when manager Dick Advocaat returns from holiday. The 29-year-old midfielder will leave Dundee for Ibrox under freedom of contract.
He will link up with his new team-mates for the first time on June 28th when the club report back for training. At one time Adamczuk looked to be on his way to Celtic but that deal broke down apparently on his insistence for a four-year contract.
