All-Ireland U-21 football semi-finals: The theme uniting these two matches is the disadvantage in which Armagh and Kildare find themselves, having concluded their provincial championships in the spring while their Connacht and Munster counterparts have been playing competitively in recent weeks.

Both teams here were surprise winners in their provinces. Cork took full advantage of Colm Cooper's injury to launch a very impressive comeback against Kerry in the Munster final and Armagh sparkled in dismantling a Derry team featuring minor All-Ireland winners from two years ago.

Both sides have a strong work ethic, balanced by some good forwards with Cork particularly strong in the corner positions filled by the promising John Hayes and senior Kevin O'Sullivan.

As well as the more recent practice, the Munster champions have had the advantage of their players' full attention after the seniors' early exit from the championship in July.

Armagh have their own supply of senior panellists and are strong through the middle with Mal Mackin and senior manager Joe Kernan's son Stephen at centre forward.

For all that Cork should be sharper and that can decide it.
