The Leinster Branch are offering a refund to the 1,000 or so supporters who were charged over the odds at last Friday night's game against Montferrand due to a shortage of change. What's more, without any tickets for evidence, they are relying on the honesty of those who call to their offices for their refunds.
In addition to the 1,000 stand ticket holders, which is accounted for in advance by sponsors/corporate sector, supporters clubs and the allocations for Montferrand and the Leinster team, an estimated 6,000 supporters paid into the ground on Friday night, thus swelling the attendance to about 500 short of the 7,500 capacity.
Admitting the crowd admission was "a bit of a fiasco", a Leinster Branch spokesperson revealed that not only did match stewards run out of change, but they had no means of giving receipts either.
As a result "we are relying on the honesty of the (1,000) Leinster supporters" when requesting their refunds.
A branch statement issued yesterday said: "Leinster Rugby would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused at the Leinster v Montferrand match on Friday 13th December, when entrance to the grounds at Donnybrook was increased from €15 to €20. Match stewards at the turnstiles ran out of change and as a result, they increased the entrance fee to €20."
"Leinster are offering a refund of €5 to those that paid €20 to enter the grounds. The public is advised to call to the Leinster Branch Offices on Main Street in Donnybrook, to collect their refund. The Leinster Branch Offices are located above O' Brien's Off-Licence in Donnybrook."
