HOCKEY:THE BATTLE for the Leinster Division One title resumes this weekend with UCD, Railway Union and Loreto the leading contenders and Hermes and Old Alexandra with some ground to make up.

These two have the chance to close the gap tomorrow, with Hermes hosting Loreto in Booterstown and Alexandra at home to Railway. UCD will look to make it eight wins in a row when they take on Trinity at Santry.

There could be a shake-up at the other end of the table too, with Glenanne (seventh) meeting Corinthian (eighth) and second-from-bottom Pembroke Wanderers looking to widen the three-point lead they have over Three Rock, when the teams meet at Serpentine Avenue.

On the international front, there has been a change to the schedule for Ireland’s Olympic qualifying tournament in Belgium in March, one that should be noted by supporters intending to travel for the decisive matches at the weekend. Ireland play the hosts on Friday, March 23rd, in their final pool match, rather than on the Saturday which is now a rest day. The deciding games take place on the Sunday (25th).
