Leitrim learn little from facile victory

Leitrim 0-21 London 0-3: Leitrim delivered the expected result in this drab tie at Páirc Seán Mhic Diarmada, Carrick-on-Shannon yesterday. New Leitrim manager Dessie Dolan will not have learned much ahead of a sterner test against Fermanagh next week.

Leitrim quickly got down to business and top scorer Johnny Goldrick's excellent third-minute point from play signalled the start of a scoring blitz by the home side that temporarily drew breath at half-time as they led 0-13 to 0-1, the London score coming from a free by Barry Solen in the 21st minute.

The visitors made several changes at half-time in an attempt to retrieve some pride from a game that was well beyond them but once again a solid Leitrim defence, led by the superb John McKeon and aided by Michael McGuinness and Barry Butler, denied the exiles.

When Michael Foley resumed the scoring with a pointed free, it was business as usual to the end. London did briefly rally with two late points but by then the home side were looking to next week's fixture, which will provide a better measure of this new-look Leitrim team.
