Leona Maguire shot a six-under-par 66 to lead the Portuguese Ladies Amateur Open Championship at the Aroeira course south of Lisbon today.

The 16-year-old from Cavan took advantage of the fine conditions to turn in four under after starting on the 10th tee. She picked up two further shots on the way home to lead by two from Karlijn Zaanen of the Netherlands

Leona’s twin sister Lisa shot a one-under 71 for a share of fifth spot while fellow Irish players Gillian O’Leary, Emma O’Driscoll and Charlene Reid all carded 75s.
