Ireland have decided to drop the experimental "no let" rule following a negative response from players and clubs.
The member countries of the International Tennis Federation have been experimenting with "no let" and "no ad" rules since the beginning of the year.
The "no ad" rule, whereby the deciding point of a game is the one after deuce - "advantage" no longer applies - will continue to operate here, but the equally-controversial "no let" rule, whereby a let is not called, is to be discontinued in all Irish events after this day week.
Tennis Ireland anticipate that the "no let" rule will also be dropped at the ITF's annual general meeting on July 1st. This would result in a bizarre situation in which teams like Ireland and Denmark, who meet in the crucial Davis Cup tie a week later, would be playing under a different rule from that which obtained in the previous round of the competition.
