St Joseph's 1-10 Marist Athlone 0-6:ST JOSEPH'S, Rochfortbridge advanced to the quarter-finals with a win over Marist College, Athlone, at Rhode yesterday. They outscored Marist by six points in the second half, despite Jason Cully having been sent off in the first half. St Joseph's went into an early lead, but with Callum McCormack and Ian Coffey prominent, the losers were just a point in arrears at the break, 0-5 to 0-4.
Three early points in as many minutes, a Clive Kiernan free and two by Donal Hickey and Wayne Fox, gave St Joseph’s a cushion. In the 27th minute, an error by Marist goalkeeper Conor Fitzgibbon was pounced on by Paul Lewis who poked the ball home.
