Limerick 2-16 Leitrim 2-10:Limerick set themselves up for a showdown with Kerry in Division 2A of the National Football League with a convincing win over Leitrim at rain-lashed Kilmallock yesterday. It was their third successive victory.
Assisted by the wind in the first half, Limerick went on a scoring spree which was highlighted by a 28th-minute goal from top marksman Michael Reidy.
Leading 1-10 to 0-4 at the interval, Leitrim upped their challenge on the change of ends, and a 42nd-minute goal from full back Adrian Carless reduced the deficit to four points, 1-13 to 1-9.
Substitute Colm Hickey and Reidy then scored points to provide Limerick with more breathing space before Hickey delivered a crucial goal with eight minutes remaining.
Leitrim were now out of it and could draw no satisfaction from a last-minute goal by substitute Noel Doonan.
