LIMERICK WILL play Kerry in the Munster junior football championship after beating Waterford by a point at Fraher Field, Dungarvan, yesterday.
The Shannonsiders got through on 0-9 to Waterford’s 1-5 after a mediocre display by both sides.
Three Ray Lynch points in the first half gave Limerick the lead and Waterford had to wait 19 minutes before Edmond Hogan finally got them off the mark.
The home side dominated the remainder of the half, but Limerick finished the half a point ahead, 0-4 to 0-3.
The second-half saw Waterford’s Patrick Lynch land a superb equaliser inside three minutes, and 90 seconds later they were in front for the first time when Connie Power lashed home the only goal of the game.
Waterford fullback Michael Supple was dismissed for a second yellow card eight minutes later and it was all downhill for the home county.
In the other semi, Kerry proved too strong for Cork at Fitzgerald Stadium. With Garry O’Driscoll, Aodán MacGearailt and wing back Eamon Hickson outstanding, Kerry were full value for their convincing 1-12 to 0-9 success.
An eventful first half saw the teams level at half time on five points apiece. The second half was very one-sided, with Cork only managing four points and three of them came in the last five minutes.
