RACING:TODAY'S JUMPS fixture at Lingfield is subject to a 7.30am precautionary inspection this morning. Parts of the Surrey circuit were waterlogged on Tuesday following 18 millimetres of rain.
Although the situation improved markedly during the last 24 hours – the ground is now heavy – clerk of the course Neil Mackenzie Ross is taking no chances.
Mackenzie Ross said yesterday: “We just want to be safe rather than sorry. We were waterlogged in one or two places on Tuesday, but a dry night last night really helped things along.
“We’re raceable today and we’re only forecast light showers for tonight, so hopefully we’ll remain raceable tomorrow.
“But no forecast is 100 per cent accurate and, obviously, if there was more rain than forecast, that could present us with a problem.
“I don’t want to be getting here in the morning and finding there is a problem and we haven’t informed people.”
Bangor have announced an all hurdles and bumper card tomorrow after abandoning the chases due to waterlogging.
Clerk of the course Andrew Tulloch has acted quickly to ensure a meeting takes place and all races have been switched to the inner course where the ground has not been used since Spring 2011.
Over at Chepstow the course saw almost 50mm of rain during Monday and Tuesday and there was a further 6mm forecast for last night.
The track is set to inspect at 8:30am this morning to see if there has been any improvement to conditions although they reported the going to be heavy on their last check for tomorrow’s scheduled meeting.
