The Links Golfing Society will start its 35th year of raising monies for charity with the first outing of the 2000/2001 season at Seapoint golf club next Thursday. Des Smyth, the president of the Links Golfing Society, is hoping that the society, under the stewardship of honorary secretary Cecil Whelan, can repeat the feats of last year when the society raised close to a half a million pounds for deserving charities. The Island will play host to the Esso-sponsored second outing on November 9th before the society moves to Co Louth on December 7th for the Guinness event. The three outings in 2001 will be at Royal Dublin in January and March, with Co Louth again hosts for the February outing.
