Golf:Lisa Maguire led home a stunning Irish one-two and became the first player from these shores to win the prestigious European Ladies Individual Amateur Championship at Noordwijkse Golf Club in the Netherlands.
For the second day running the conditions played havoc with the field when pars, instead of birdies, became the premium.
All week Lisa had been the only player to remain under par but the 16-year-old from Cavan had to settle for a final round 79.
However that was still good enough to maintain the four stroke lead she held at the start of the day. The Slieve Russell player created history to claim the title with a four round, five over, 293 aggregate.
Maguire's closest pursuer became her compatriot Stephanie Meadow, who with her final round 73, jumped into outright second to ensure a remarkable day for Ireland. The Royal Portrush golfer finished on nine over.
Long-time challenger Charlotte Kring Lorentzen (79) was third while Lisa's twin sister, Leona, was fourth on 12 over after a final round of 80.
After a poor start to the week Royal County Down's Danielle McVeigh battled for a top 20 finish and her closing 78 left her tied 19th.
