In the only contest at the national convention of the Pitch and Putt Union of Ireland at the Gleneagles Hotel in Killarney on Saturday, Michael Murphy of the Old County club in Dublin was elected secretary by 77 votes to 37 from Billy Bell of the Ryston club in Newbridge.

Six other officers were returned unopposed. Murphy replaces the long-serving Peg Smith, who was inducted into the PPUI Hall of Fame. Eight clubs - Collins, Deerpark, ESB, Kilbeggan, Lucan, Royal Meath, St Brigid's and Shandon - were presented with gold club development awards. Trim took silver while bronze awards went to Bellewstown, Bruff, CYMC/LC, Glenville, Millhouse, Ryston and Seapoint.
