TENNIS/National Indoor Championships: Rebecca Llewellyn of Wales achieved a significant success in her young professional tennis career when qualifying for Wimbledon this year.

Now, she aims to redress her disappointment of 12 months ago when losing the Irish National Indoor title at the last hurdle.

The astute Llewellyn cruised into the semi-finals at Riverview last night by dismantling the useful game of Waterford's Andrea Maughan 6-1, 6-2.

Llewellyn's greater experience enabled her to control the game. And her more varied game generally left the Irish girl on the back foot.

The Welsh star meets Cork's Elsa O'Riain in tonight's semi-finals. O'Riain showed much of her former flair and ability to dominate a match against Ciara Finucane.

The other two seeded players, Ann Marie Hogan and Rachel Dillon, were slow to get started in their games yesterday.

Hogan came under pressure from a very persistent Lisa Lawlor before going through

6-4, 6-1.

Dillon's first set troubles against ambitious Dublin-based Romanian, Marianna Levova, was reflected in a 12-game set.
