SAILNG:Irish sailors Ger Owens and Scott Flanigan have qualified for the Olympic Games.
The pair are sailing at the 470 World Championships in Barcelona where an additional seven nation places are up for grabs in addition to the 20 that were allocated last year.
They lie 24th overall on day three following a 10th and a 13th in their two races yesterday.
The 95 boats have now split into gold, silver and bronze fleets.
Owens and Flanigan are in the gold fleet, which means they cannot finish lower than seventh in the nation places, and so have secured their place at the Games.
Ross Hamilton moved up four places to 49th overall in the fleet of 94 boats on day three in Cornwall of the Finn World Championships. Hamilton had a steady day with a 41st and a 47th.
Racing continues today as he continues his battle for Olympic qualification.
