Aidan O'Brien's Second Empire (6-4 ) impressed when taking the Group Three Prix des Chenes (1m) at Longchamp yesterday under Michael Kinane by two and a half lengths from Muhtathir. The Fairy King colt runs in the colours of Michael Tabor.

Oliver Peslier was furious with Cash Asmussen after his mount Peintre Celebre, a 10 to 1 on chance, met with a controversial defeat by Rajpoute in the Prix Niel after being hemmed in by Asmussen on Ithaki. Peslier, who had been critical of Asmussen's riding of Helissio at Ascot in July, was in no doubt that the American jockey's tactics were deliberate. "My version is that I think he wanted me to lose this race," he fumed.

"I think he is very angry because he doesn't ride Helissio but it is not professional. If I had no chance I open up a little bit and say `You go, because I will finish last.' But I think he is happy. I don't understand."

"I will not speak to Cash because if there is a big fight with Asmussen and Peslier the stewards will not be happy."
