Longford 2-13 Galway 1-6 Longford managed a convincing victory over Galway in Athlone yesterday to claim their first All-Ireland Vocational Schools inter-county football A title.

A goal in either half by Longford's impressive full forward Brian Kavanagh helped them to a fully deserved win.

Longford led by 1-7 to 0-5 at half-time but a Galway goal early in the second-half narrowed their advantage to just two points.

Then Longford held Galway scoreless for the remainder of the game and when Kavanagh scored his second goal, any hopes of a Galway comeback were dashed.
