Longford Town - 3 Bohemians - 1: Chants from Bohemians supporters calling for player-manager Gareth Farrelly's resignation echoed around Flancare Park as Longford Town comfortably collected their first win of the season on Saturday night.

The home side had scored just twice in their first seven games, but they fully deserved the victory, which came courtesy of goals from Alan Kirby, Dessie Baker and David Byrne.

Bohemians got the perfect start when Farrelly put them in front after just six minutes when the Longford defence failed to deal with Stephen Rice's long throw-in on the right. The ball fell to Farrelly, who drilled it into the bottom corner from just inside the box.

Bohemians went on to dominate the early exchanges with John Paul Kelly and Kevin Hunt coming close to adding a second.

But Longford gradually edged their way into the tie and drew level on the half-hour mark. A cross from Dessie Baker reached the unmarked Alan Kirby, who finished from six yards.

After a quiet opening to the second half, Longford went in front for the first time of the season on 67 minutes.

Gary Cronin picked out Baker on the edge of the area and his shot looped over the head of goalkeeper Stephen O'Brien, though it was helped by a deflection off defender Conor Powell.

Longford capitalised on lax defending to make sure of their win on 74 minutes when Sean Prunty played a one-two with Kirby before crossing to Byrne who found the net.
