NFL DIVISION THREE Longford 1-16 Sligo 1-8:SEÁN McCORMACK bagged 10 points as super-fit Longford swept to victory in this crunch game at Markievicz Park yesterday.

Sligo finished the game with 14 players after full back Johnny Martyn was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 53rd minute.

McCormack got Longford off to a lively start from a free after 60 seconds and went on to play a major role in a gripping first half.

Mark Breheny opened Sligo’s account, also from a free, after four minutes before an Adrian Marren goal in the 13th minute put the home side a point in front.

But the Yeats men then went five minutes without raising a flag during which Longford scored 1-2, the goal coming from Paul Barden in the 16th minute. Longford led 1-7 to 1-3 at half time.

The visitors continued to dictate the play in the second half with McCormack firing over points from play and from frees and from all angles and there was no way back for Sligo.
