Leeds 0 Longford Town 3: FAI Cup holders Longford Town took just 10 minutes to illustrate their superiority over Munster Senior League side Leeds in a one-sided tie at Turner's Cross yesterday.
Longford scored twice in that period with the first goal coming after a defensive mistake in the fourth minute.
A free from Barry Ferguson was headed across goal by Sean Francis.
And when centre-back Paul Fitzgerald deflected it into the path of Dessie Baker the centre-forward shot past goalkeeper James McCarthy.
Longford effectively put the game beyond Leeds' reach when they scored their second goal. A corner from the right from Sean Prunty carried across the crowded goalmouth to where Sean Dillon was unchallenged as he volleyed the ball home.
Leeds settled into the contest as the pace of the game dropped with Longford playing well within themselves. They were looking ahead to a UEFA Cup second-leg tie against Vaduz on Thursday but they still created scoring chances regularly.
The stubborn Leeds defence, however, forced them to wait until the final minute of the match for their third goal when a lovely passing movement saw the ball the switch from Eric Lavine to Daragh Sheridan to Dillon and then to Shane Barrett.
He accelerated clear of the Leeds' defence and pulled the ball back from the end line for Alan Kirby to steer a shot beyond the reach of McCarthy.
